Curbs, Parking Lots and Potholes Oh My!

Enviro USA • Dec 11, 2019

Unfortunately at some point someone is going to run over a curb it just happens.

People hit them with their cars, shopping carts and they just wear down over time.

Luckily getting them fixed by a trained technician is just as easy as a phone call.

What can be done about your broken curb?

  • The technicians will break apart the broken area.
  • They will rinse away the unstable pieces.
  • Then the curb will be filled and shaped to the correct specifications of the curb.
  • This will need to dry for several days and then your curb will be good as new!

But maybe you are wondering what about broken areas of my parking lot? Potholes and damaged parking lots can create flooding, blown out tires and if they are big enough it can cause a lot of damage to cars.

Now if your parking lot just has pitting which are small holes then you can have a technician use an epoxy or latex sealer.

Small cracks can be repaired by having your parking resealed. You should have your parking lot resealed every two to three years. Having a reseal done can keep long term repairs to a minimum saving you money. Think of it as getting your floors striped and waxed, they look better and customers are more likely to come back.

Is it time to completely replace your parking lot?

Do you have the following issues?

  • Long, Wide, or Deep Cracks – Cracks will always form due to weather or pressure from cars and trucks. Deep cracks because a hazard as water can flow through and damage the ground underneath. Patch repairing these is only a short term band-aid.
  • Potholes – Everyone hates potholes, yes these can always be filled and patched but that doesn’t cure the underlying issue and you will keep filling the holes over and over again. Normally potholes happen more in asphalt style lots.
  • Drainage Issues – Your parking lot filling up with rainwater can cause not only structural damage, but if a car hydroplanes it can cause major damage.

If you have any of the above then your best option is to have it ripped up and new concrete or asphalt laid. Yes a full replacement takes time and money but sometimes starting fresh and having a reseal plan in effect can help in the long run.

Another helpful thing for your parking lot is re-stripping, every few years have your parking spots repainted, as the paint wears away which makes it difficult for someone to park properly.

As someone who lives in a city that potholes are everywhere I can promise you that we all prefer to go to stores where the parking lot is smooth and the parking lines are visible.
