Rayon: This type carpet is also known as Art Silk or Viscose. Rayon has a practical lifespan of about a year due to fiber loss and bending of the yarn. This type carpet needs to be vacuumed with suction only and if it gets wet needs to dried extremely quickly to combat a total loss of fibers.

Olefin: This carpet is made out of polypropylene fiber, meaning it is a synthetic based fiber. Olefin is not a very resilient fiber and can be easily damaged by heat and even friction from moving a having piece of furniture across it such as a large desk. When cleaning this type carpet a truck mount cleaning is the best way to go as any sticky residue will wick down to the pad.

Triexta: Is another synthetic carpet made of polytrimethylene terephthalate. It is similar to polyester fibers. There are some great features of this type carpeting which include high traffic durability and very resistant to staining unless it is oil-based. It is not recommended to use hot water on this type carpet. Vacuuming and usually can just be cleaned with a cold water extraction cleaning.

Polyester: This type carpet budget-friendly choices, it has a soft feel and can be very stain and mold resistant. There are disadvantages to Polyester as well, it crushes extremely easy so it doesn’t last long under foot traffic, and it is not resistant to oil stains and UV Rays. We recommend having these type carpets cleaned with extraction as it will clean down to the pad.

Wool: This type carpet is a natural fiber. It is great for high traffic areas, environmentally friendly and with the right care can last for years. However, it absorbs moisture and can be prone to mildew and mold. Having these types carpets cleaned takes someone who is highly trained in keeping wool’s PH correct. Dry foam extraction is usually your best choice.

Nylon: Is the top contender in the world of carpeting. Nylon is more expensive than some of the other synthetic carpet types, but Nylon is extremely durable, excellent resistance to abrasion, crush and wear, insects, molding, mildew, rot, and many chemicals. When utilizing Nylon carpet we recommend having stain protection added to your new carpet or right after a fresh cleaning. Water rinse extraction is the best deep cleaning method for this type carpet.
