Landscape Maintenance

Apr 04, 2022

What is Landscape Maintenance and why should your company have a Landscape Maintenance Plan?

Here is a list of tasks that your landscape maintenance plan should have and why.

  • Weekly or Bi-Weekly mowing – This is important to keep your grass looking manicured at all times. This also helps keep down on insects and pests.
  • Fertilization - Fertilizer helps not only improve the color of turf, but it thickens the grass to help reduce the chance of weeds growing.
  • Spring and Fall Clean Up - Clean-ups during both the spring and fall season should include pruning, debris removal, mulching, cutting back perennials and ornamental grasses, and re-edging the beds. Fall clean-up should also include leaf removal.
  • Leaf Clean-Up – Leaf clean-up is a category of its own, as it can be a huge project depending on the amount of trees on your property. Leaves that are left behind not only become unsightly but can attract rodents and ticks to take up residence on your property during the colder months. It’s important to get all leaves and debris off of the property before the winter season begins.
  • Bed Maintenance – Not all properties have a flower bed, but for the properties that do sometimes this can be overlooked. Plant bed maintenance should be performed on an ongoing basis in both the spring and fall. It is important to remove all weeds or they can move into your turf area and take over.
  • Aeration & Over seeding – It is important to let your turf breathe. By using core aeration it allows air and water to get deeper into your turf. It is also a good idea to over seed your turf during this time as it allows seed to soil contact.
  • Watering – Having a state of the art irrigation system with a water sensor is the best way to make sure your turf doesn’t get overwatered or under watered.
  • Weed Control Treatments – As you know weeds can wreak havoc on your property. Having weed control treatments helps eliminate weeds before they can spread.
  • Top Dressing – This is done by adding a thin layer of compost to your turf. In doing this it adds extra nutrients to your soil and helps provide beneficial microbes. This is a service that should be done in very early spring.
